A view from the top…

October 27th, 2010

of the John Hancock Building in Chicago.  This week our theme at Sunday Shutterbugs (my photo blog with Edie) is VIEW, and it was perfect that Sunday was the day we took our daughter to the American Girl Place in Chicago, which happens to be next door to the John Hancock Building (and I’ve always wanted to go there….even though seriously afraid of heights).  And WOW it was a spectacular view even though it was cloudy and a bit gloomy.  And really freaking HIGH (94th floor).  I also suffer from motion sickness (cars, planes, roller coasters, elevators), and the elevator in this place about did me in.  It’s the fastest elevator in North America and got us up to the 94th floor in 40 seconds.  (excuse me while I barf)

So anyway……here’s my photo:

And you’ll need to just click over to Sunday Shutterbugs right here to see Edie’s photo and share yours with us!  Just leave a link in the comments over there.

Sunday Shutterbugs

October 11th, 2010

This week my friend Edie and I are doing the word UP on our photo blog, Sunday Shutterbugs.   Here’s my photo:

 blog-shutterbug-10-10-10-up.jpg

And whew, let me tell you something….I earned this photo!  I had to climb a stupid observation tower that I swear to you was as tall as the Empire State Building.  And I’m afraid of heights.  It was soooo not my idea of a good way to spend my Sunday afternoon!

But I made it up there and the view was phenomenal, as you can see.  And then I had to go back down, which was worse than going up believe it or not.  So I hope you guys LOVE this photo!

Once again, Edie’s photo is phenomenal.  It blew me away when I saw it!  Go here to see our photos and share your version of UP.

Backyard visitors.

October 8th, 2010

Autumn has arrived.  I don’t like it.  Yes, it’s leaves-changing-colors time and weenie roast time and the crispness is in the air.  But for me it symbolizes that winter is right around the corner.  And I hate winter.  I despite it.  I loathe it.  I don’t like snow (especially driving in it) except when it’s coming down in big soft fluffy flakes or the sun is glinting off of a new fallen snow.  And then I only like it through my window of my house.  This year I have really enjoyed spring and summertime because it seems like every time I took a look out my office/studio window I would see a new visitor in the backyard.  I hadn’t ever really thought about taking photos of them before (besides the hummingbirds) but this year I thought I would take pictures and make a scrapbook page.  Maybe it will get me through the winter until spring arrives gain.  We live on a pretty busy highway, but you’d never know that when you’re in our backyard.  I love it!

Here are a few visitors:

This little guy was eating his breakfast outside my kitchen window.

This is the first year we’ve ever had one of these types of butterflies in our yard.  I was way too excited.

And this little guy kept coming back to see me.  I purposely hung the feeder outside the window near my desk so I could just stay seated at my desk and take a photo when he came by to say hello.

There he is dropping down and looking in at me.  It was so fun!

This guy was looking right at me too!

First year we’ve ever had finches come visit us!

Isn’t she pretty?

These little dudes I saw through Summer’s bedroom window.

And then a couple decided to pose for me!  ha ha  I think one of them is hogging all the birdseed because that other one looks pretty skinny!

I didn’t really need to know THESE things were visiting our backyard!

And I didn’t like this monster either!  Seriously, this thing was HUGE.  Yuck.

I have also found lots of flowers and bits of nature in our yard this year.

blog-blue-flower.jpg

(anybody know what this blue flower is?  It’s very pretty and it grows on a vine and it invades everywhere in our yard.  I have a love/hate relationship with it because it’s everywhere but I love it because it’s so pretty!)

Anybody else see a heart?  Is it just me?

Outside my kitchen window is a tree that grows these berries.  We don’t know what they are, but the birds love them.

One of my favorite photos.

And another favorite of mine.

I go out on rainy days too with my camera wrapped up in a plastic bag.

Can you guys see the spiderweb in this photo?

I wish I could look out the window someday and see a gorgeous deer out there but that’s never gonna happen.  What have you guys seen in your backyards?  Leave me a link so I can come and see!

Sunday Shutterbugs.

October 4th, 2010

Edie was sick last week so we missed posting our photos on Sunday.  So this week it’s double the fun and we’re doing last Sunday and yesterday (in different posts).  Last week’s word was TWO.  Here’s my photo for that:

 blog-9-26-shutterbug-two.jpg

You can click here to go see both our photos and share yours with us.  We really like seeing other people’s versions of our word.

And this week’s photo is TREE.  Here’s my photo for that.

 blog-9-24-yellow-leaf-favorite.jpg

I love Edie’s photo for this week, and we kind of had the same idea again like we did with our sound photos the week before.  You can join in with us and show us your photo too!  Here’s the link to see both our photos and add yours.

Sunday Shutterbugs…

September 21st, 2010

Edie and I have been really late the last few weeks posting our photos to the Sunday Shutterbugs blog…..but this week we were almost on time and got the post done yesterday.  Our word this week is SOUND and you should go check it out.

Here’s my photo:

blog-shutterbug-9-19-10-sound.jpg

Now go over to the Sunday Shutterbugs blog and check out Edie’s photo.  It will make you laugh!  Then go out and find something around you that represents “sound” and share the link with us over there.  We love to go look at others’ photos too!  Click here to see this week’s photos.

Q is for Quarter.

August 24th, 2010

So on Sundays my friend Edie and I upload our photo with the previously agreed upon theme to our Sunday Shutterbugs blog.  We’ve been going alphabetically and this week it’s Q.  Lemme tell ya, there are not a lot of photogenic items that begin with Q.  ha ha!  But we settled on quarter, which could be interpreted several ways.  Here’s my photo:

What do you think?

Edie’s having computer issues so hers isn’t there yet but should be by Wednesday morning.

Wanna join us?  If you can think of a “quarter” photo, come share it with us and link up your photo so we can see it over on the blog here.

Another Sunday.

August 2nd, 2010

Another photo challenge with my friend Edie.  We couldn’t post last week because Edie was having trouble so this week we are doing 2 photos, 1 for O and 1 for P.

Our O word this week (last week) is OPEN and coicidentally Edie and I both took a photo of a flower!  We don’t discuss what we’ll be photographing ahead of time.

Our P word this week is PARK.  I love Edie’s photo for this challenge.

Head over to the Sunday Shutterbugs blog here for the O’s and here for the P’s and share your photo with us this week!

Orange.

July 20th, 2010

This week our theme at Sunday Shutterbugs is ORANGE.  So sometime this week go on over to the blog here to see my photo and Edie’s (it’s awesome) and share your with us.  We would love to see them!

Noun.

July 17th, 2010

I mentioned the other day that Edie and I doubled up on our photos this week over at Sunday Shutterbugs.  And I showed you my nature photo.  Here’s my take on the noun assignment.

I sort of had a hard time with it, even though it sounds pretty easy.  But with “person, place, or thing” the possibilites are endless!  ha ha  So after a rain storm I went outside and looked around because everything always looks more interesting after a rain, I think.  And this is what I saw:

Nature.

July 13th, 2010

Edie and I skipped a week on our photo blog and this week we’re doubling up and doing two photos with the letter N…. Nature and Noun.  I’m still working on my noun but……

Here’s my NATURE photo:

Come over and share your photos with us at the Sunday Shutterbugs blog.  As always, Edie’s is awesome!
