Results of the Altered Bra Contest
Remember the bra I showed you that I made for the contest in October? I wrote about it here. Well, I’ve had so many people contacting me wishing me good luck and asking if I won, so here’s the answer. NO. Dammit.

I am SO bummed out. My little girl thought she’d be cute and try it on and I was really cheered up by her goofy antics while wearing the bra. It’s all good. Forgive me the horrible photos, please. My camera hasn’t been the same since it drowned at Kings Island several months ago. It’s kind of hard to see it because she has a pink shirt on and the bra is pink too!
Now I just have to figure out what on earth I’m gonna do with this thing. Maybe just sit it on a shelf in my studio. It’s much prettier in real life, I swear.

Here are the rest of the cards that I have been making for the last month in preparation for a holiday bazaar. The bazaar was a bust, not many people showed up, maybe because of the weather being rainy and yucky.

P.S. I will be listing these in my etsy shop (www.summerrosescrapbooks.etsy.com). If you see any here that you would like to purchase just click on the link above to go to my store. I also make sets of notecards that would be good for gift giving next month! Ugh, is it really next month?

Apparently it was a message or slogan on posters everywhere in Britain in….World War I? Or was it World War II? Don’t laugh at me! Being the young pup that I am, I was not alive when the war was going on and don’t know much about it because my memory isn’t worth a shit and everything I learned in history class in high school is LOOONNG gone.
BUT I saw this pendant in this etsy shop and LOVED IT. Not even as a symbol of the war that it actually was, but as a reminder to myself that it’s what I need to do every day. Just keep calm and carry on. And when I saw this pendant, I had to have it. It was a fabulous price, and when it arrived in the mail today I couldn’t believe how beautiful it is. It is made from an actual wood scrabble tile! I love that it is recycled from something, I love that it is red and pink and has a crown on it (I think the message was from the Queen?), I love the message. I also bought two other scrabble tile pendants, but they are for special people for Christmas so can’t show them here until December 26! haha But I can tell you they are equally as fabulous as this one! I also bought us all these cool latex black cords to go with them from the same etsy shop. And then I marked about 20 more pendants as favorites! And that’s only because I made myself stop looking through the shop! Oh, the eye candy. Go check them out here and just try not to buy something, I challenge you! www.homestudio.etsy.com
Edited to add: I went back to the etsy shop and read the description of my pendant and turns out it was World War II.

My husband and I went to an assembly at the school today because they were giving out awards and my girl got High Honors. That means straight A’s all quarter, people. I am so proud of her. She is in an advanced reading class and is really hating it right now, says it too much work, etc., etc., so I was surprised a little to see her get an A in that. She has been struggling.
But what made me even MORE proud, and what is the reason for this post is what happened AFTER the assembly.
Summer wanted to take her lunch today, and this morning when I went to make the sandwich there was no bread, so knowing I was going to be seeing her later at the assembly I said, “I’ll just run to the store and get bread then bring your lunch to you when we come to the assembly.” Well, really I should have known better, cause I can’t ever get out the door on time for anything no matter how hard I try, so there was no time to buy the bread, take it back home and make the sandwich before the assembly. So plan B was buying two lunchables. I wasn’t sure which one she would want, so I bought two and figured she could just choose and bring the other one back home. Well, we ended up leaving the assembly after she got her award, which is something we have never done before, and we left her lunch bag on her desk without having a chance to tell her why there were two lunchables.
She came home from school today and said, “I ate all my lunch today, mom. But why were there 2 in there?” I told her I didn’t know which one she’d like and I thought I would be able to speak with her and tell her to pick one. She said, “Well, I chose the pizza. But ****** only had turkey for lunch so I gave her my other lunchable.” I said, “You mean she just had a turkey sandwich, no chips or anything?” and she said, “No, just turkey, no bread, nothing else. So I said here, you can have this lunchable.”
I cannot even tell you the pride I felt. (On top of a bit of sadness for this child whose mother either doesn’t know how to pack a decent lunch or couldn’t afford bread or whatever.) Sometimes I think maybe we have spoiled her too much and given her too much and she’s a bit selfish, and I have tried to teach her about how fortunate she is and that there are children who don’t have enough to eat and don’t have books and…and…and…
And then she comes home and tells me this. Maybe we’re doing okay. Just maybe we are. And so we have another story for the scrapbook.

I bought these chipboard letters made by Creative Imaginations at a scrapbook store in Springfield, Illinois a looong time ago when my friend Thea and I traveled there to take a Donna Downey class. (P.S. She is a RIOT! — have I told the story about that yet?) Anyway, I’m ashamed to say that I had a plan for them the entire time since, but they’ve been sitting here in the box. Sometimes I drive myself crazy the way I procrastinate!
My daughter is an 8-year-old artist and she has such a passion for it that I made her a little room all her own that we call her “art room.” Aren’t we CLEVER? Anyway, my plan was to alter these letters with some pretty paper and hang them on her wall somehow above the wall of windows.
They aren’t on the wall yet, but here’s a shot of what they look like since I started working on them the other day.
I’m thinking I’ll be adding some bling and some small little flowers maybe and some ribbons maybe, so they are still a work in progress. But I’m loving how they look so far.
I’ll show the finished product when we get them on her wall.

I’m always writing things down or tearing pages out of scrapping magazines of things I might want to buy someday when I’m rich (haha), and there’s nowhere to put them. It finally drove me crazy enough that I took one of my little 7Gypsies chipboard books and made me a little book to tape down all the little pieces of paper and pictures of items to be on the lookout for when there’s a sale going on or I get a great coupon or something.
So here it is.

I made 2 more candles the other day, another autumn themed candle and another Christmas themed candle. I’ll be selling these at the holiday bazaar soon. These are different from the first two in that I added some Stickles to them so the flowers have a bit of sparkly-ness (yes, it’s a word) and I like these better.
Please forgive the absolutely crappy photos. ![]()

I have been sick for a week now. The other day I just felt like crap and stayed in bed for a while, told my daughter I was gonna take a nap. My daughter came in a little later and brought me a handmade card. Here’s the front.
How can you NOT love that? In case you can’t tell, it’s a thermometer! And a sad face, of course. Cause if momma is sick, nobody’s happy, right? ![]()
But THIS…..this is the reason I loved it and laughed and the reason it’s going in the scrapbook, people. And it was even better because it’s the BACK of the card, which to me is the last place I’d expect something funny to be. I love the little “ouch” and the arrow pointing to the high temp on the thermometer. Just totally cracked me up. And I wasn’t running a fever or checking my temp or anything. Don’t know where she comes up with this stuff. I love this kid.
